They whistle! They rattle!

The Borrego Art Institute Pottery is pleased to offer a clay workshop with local artist, Jack Sims, utilizing basic hand-building techniques. The projects you will make can be enjoyed by folks at all levels of experience but are especially kind to beginners. The class employs techniques like hand forming, use of texture, combining components with slip, and glazing, to develop a three dimensional, hollow form. Then this clay balloon will be transformed into stylized fruit or vegetable inspired rattles, worthy of a table centerpiece, holiday gift or a percussion instrument. Using all the same techniques, you will build some of the most primitive of musical instruments, clay whistles with more than one note.

The three classes for the workshop are Tuesday and Wednesday, February 9 and 10, 10am-1pm; Wednesday, February 24, 10am-1pm.

Cost: $120, includes materials and tools.

Instructor: Jack Sims
